The number of children a mother had also determined the likelihood that she depended on this specific daughter for emotional support. Even mothers who were married rarely named their husbands as their preferred confidant, instead they tended to name one of their children. Mothers with many children sometimes named an offspring other than the target daughter when asked whom they confide in most.
